Your first five steps
Right after signing the agreement.
Each step takes just a few minutes.
1.
Complete and return the intake form. It tells us who's who at SEMM and how you'd like to work.
3.
Schedule the kickoff meeting with Enrique. One hour to agree on owners, tasks, training dates and decisions.
5.
Schedule agent training date. One live session, recorded for replay - so every shift can watch it.
2.
Confirm your Coordinator and Approvers. Your Coordinator is our single point of contact. Approvers sign off on materials and case requests.
4.
Send your first member registry. A list of member ID numbers only, with no names or personal data.

HOW IT WORKS
Medical second opinions made easy
From the first connection to the final written report, here's what a SEMM member experiences.
USING GSO
What SEMM members need to have ready
Complete medical documents helps ensure faster answer for patients. Documents can be in any language. GSO handles the translation. Patients or their representatives can upload files easily and securely. Files in PDF, Word, JPG and PNG all work.
What patients should plan to submit when opening a case with GSO:
Their SEMM member number
Clinical letter from their treating physician. (Important: it gives the experts the full picture quickly)
Imaging reports, such as MRI, CT or X-ray.
Pathology and lab results, ideally from the last six months.
Physician notes
Any other relevant reports, such as surgical, endoscopy or cardiology reports.
MEDICAL CENTERS
Opinions from leading medical centers
GSO's physician case managers match each case to the right specialists at a leading academic institution, based on the diagnosis.
The reviewers are board-certified specialists at the forefront of research and clinical care, and each opinion comes from an institution, not from one individual doctor. GSO's network reaches more than 20,000 specialist physicians in the United States, Europe and Latin America.
In the US & Europe
United States, Harvard-affiliated: Massachusetts General Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston Children's Hospital, Mass Eye and Ear, McLean Hospital, Spaulding Rehabilitation.
United States, UCLA Health: Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital, Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital, UCLA Santa Monica and West Valley Medical Centers.
United States, Mayo Clinic: Rochester, Minnesota (referral privileges)
Europe: AKH University Hospital Vienna, Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona, Charité and Tübingen University Hospitals in Germany, and more than 500 specialists in Switzerland.

All reports are shared in one place, so you can see progress at any time.
PRIVACY AND SECURITY
Member information is always protected
The GSO portal is secure, encrypted and compliant with HIPAA and GDPR. Members create their own account and give their consent in the portal before they upload anything. SEMM's registry holds no personal data, and members decide whether to share their report with their own doctor. During onboarding we'll confirm with you how SEMM authorizes data sharing under Uruguay's personal data law (Ley 18.331).
FAQ
Questions we hear often
Who can use GSO? SEMM members listed in the registry who have received a diagnosis or treatment recommendation and want an expert second opinion.
Which conditions are covered? Serious and complex conditions across specialties such as oncology, cardiology, neurology, orthopedics, gastroenterology, pulmonology, rheumatology, pediatrics and genetics - and more. Consult with your GSO Account Manager if you have questions about particular conditions.
When can't GSO help? When a member needs urgent care right away, when a physical examination is required, when the member hasn't seen a treating doctor in the last 12 months, or when the opinion is wanted for a legal proceeding.
How long does it take? About 7 to 10 business days once the records are complete. Highly complex cases might take a little longer.
What language is the report in? The official report is created and delivered in English, and members also receive a Spanish translation for convenience. They can upload their medical documents in any language.
Can members speak with the specialist? Not directly. Members can send follow-up questions about their opinion through GSO, and GSO's physician case managers help by coordinating the answers.
Does a second opinion replace the member's doctor? No. The opinion is advisory only. Decisions about treatment stay between the member and their treating doctor.
Is there a cost for members? Confirm with SEMM’s Company Coordinator about costs.
What happens when our prepaid cases run out? We'll let you know before your last prepaid case is used, so you can decide about adding more at any time.
